The center made history by becoming the nation’s ﬁrst museum to interpret the Civil War from three critical perspectives — Union, Confederate, and African American — telling the whole story of the conﬂict through its The American breakthrough interactive exhibit, In the Civil War Center at Cause of Liberty. The fund-raising effort also will help the center update In the Cause of Liberty and build a new facility featuring temporary galleries and an experience theater. “We want to bring Historic Tredegar into the 21st century in compelling ways,” says Christy S. Coleman, the center’s president. Money from the campaign will enable Historic Tredegar to tell another story that hasn’t fully been told — that of Tredegar Iron Works, one of the few remaining Civil War industrial sites in the country. Tredegar produced more than half of all cannons and munitions used by the Confederacy. “Historic Tredegar is a national asset that will continue to educate and inspire for years to come,” says Coleman.
