Founded in 1819 by Captain Alden Partridge, Norwich — the oldest private military college in the U.S. — is the birthplace of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). Serving all four branches of service, Norwich educates traditional-age students and adults in a Corps of Cadets and as civilians. “Enrollment at Norwich totals 2,150 undergraduate students comprised of Corps of Cadet members and civilians, and 1,200 online graduate usairwaysmag.com and continuing studies students,” says Sherri Gilmore, director of admissions at Norwich. “Our cadets attend classes with our civilian students and participate in the same clubs and athletic teams. Cadets do, however, live in barracks and operate under an Army structure.
