For 10 days, ﬁlmmakers screen their latest works for the public, receive valuable feedback, and RiverRun International Film Festival compete for audience and jury prizes. Rodgers says it’s that intimacy that has helped make RiverRun successful. In 2012, admissions to all events increased by more than 13 percent over 2011, and box ofﬁce revenues rose 8.5 percent. “This community strongly supports the arts,” he says. “RiverRun is all about everyday people, no matter where they’re from, coming together to see interesting ﬁlms.” Categories include narrative, documentary, shorts, student, and animated ﬁlms. “We have something for everyone,” Rodgers says. RiverRun announces its 2013 lineup next March, and the festival runs April 12–21. Individual tickets are $10, with weekday matinees $5, and special events up to $20. It’s those events, panel discussions, parties, and celebrity tributes that capture the heart of RiverRun, where ﬁlmgoers can peek behind the camera to meet the creators of the ﬁlms they’ve just seen.
