And quaint it is, but Pennsport has a glittery side: the Mummers. A Mummer is one of 10,000 people who strut down Broad Street on New Year’s Day, sporting colorful costumes and carting elaborate floats. The Mummers’ clubhouses pepper Pennsport’s Two Street, as the locals affectionately call it. They prepare yearround for their January 1 performance, where they are cheered along by thousands of adoring fans. You can get a taste of folk-parade fun at the neighborhood’s Mummers Museum. While known for its colorful Mummers history, Pennsport is gaining a reputation for impressive restaurants, updated parks, and friendly neighborhood pubs.
