Creative Corners Discover Cedar Park’s independent shops, galleries, and restaurants. The neighborhood takes its name from the small yet vibrant park at its center. Queen Anne–style homes hark back to Cedar Park’s former status as a 19th-century “streetcar suburb” of Center City, but since the 1960s the area has adopted a distinctively bohemian character. Before you start exploring, fuel up with a Vietnamese-style tofu hoagie from Fu-Wah Mini Market — a local favorite. Then check out the shops just off Baltimore Avenue. Vix Emporium sells handmade jewelry, stationery, scarves, bath products, home accessories, and ceramics made by more than 100 different artisans. The Marvelous, meanwhile, has a collection of records spanning rock, soul, and jazz, as well as vintage turntables, guitars, and other music accessories. Not quite a store, A-Space serves as a local “infoshop” with free books, art shows, live music, and even potlucks.
