Last year, Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine ranked JCSU’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics 18th in the nation in graduating African Americans in computer and information sciences. The university’s mission to revitalize Charlotte’s Northwest Corridor inspired the launch of the Center for Applied Leadership and Community Development, where students and faculty work to create positive changes through service-learning projects. Recently a $35 million gift from The Duke Endowment supports the renovation of Duke Hall, the construction of a state-of-the-art science center, and student scholarships. It’s one of the largest gifts ever received by a historically black university.
