Don’t miss: ■ during the week leading up to the game: stanford’s laser-light show and the Gaieties, a theatrical production that celebrates and pokes fun at the rivalry. ■ toomer’s Corner in auburn, where two iconic oak trees had to be cut down this year after being poisoned by a Crimson tide fan after the 2010 game. ■ the blood battle: student-led blood drives at each school in the weeks leading up to the game to see which campus can generate the most donations. Factoid: ■ in 1982, some stanford band members ran onto the field to celebrate — during a kickoff return. Cal won the disputed game. November 23, at Stanford ■ the matchup is called the iron bowl. For many years it took place in birmingham, which has historic ties to the steel industry. November 30, at Auburn ■ however things turn out, michigan fans can always point to the 1902 (no-)contest: an 86-0 dismantling of the buckeyes.
