Placed into Lake Erie and its tributaries since 1961, presently at least 1 million fingerling smolts are stocked yearly by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) and sportsmen's cooperative nurseries into about 12 of Pennsylvania's creeks entering the Great Lakes and Presque Isle Bay, Erie 8 County. Steelhead return each year as strong acrobatic adults to spawn, bringing fish into the ready reach of eager steelhead anglers seeking them from autumn through early spring at sites in Erie County. Dennis Beggs Dennis Beggs, Franklin, started steelhead fishing in 1982 and took a few years off while raising kids. He returned to the steelhead streams about 10 years ago.
