The industry needs this technology.” On February 15, 1994, the first Ecosystems/IPE recycling system for the powder coating industry was installed and the unused washer began to turn out product. The system worked well from the start. However, Waggoner is cautious about what he recommends to his customers. He insisted that the Ecosystems rinse water recycling system prove itself with two years of uninterrupted operation before he sold the second one. Today, more than 70 of these rinse water recycling systems recycle water in conjunction with IPE and other manufacturers’ washers. These systems are available in three versions: a spacesaving version that is integrated into new IPE washers; a skid-mounted version that can be added to most existing washers; and a modular version for unusual space configurations. All use membrane technology to recycle both the rinse water and chemicals used in the pretreatment process. These chemicals include iron phosphate, zinc phosphate, aluminum conversion coat, and alkaline cleaners. Ecosystems also designs and manufactures other membrane and ion exchange systems to recycle a range of chemicals. To ensure the system performs optimally, Ecosystems tests each customer’s chemistry for compatibility with a number of different membranes under simulated operating conditions. Ecosystems also conducts an engineering review of customer equipment and production conditions to determine feasibility.
