The pump and a tank are hidden underneath the drip tunnel area between stages two and three. “Adding the Ecosystems recycling system to our washer has made my life easier,” says Fidel Navarrete, paint supervisor. “Before, we hauled and dumped all three tanks four times a year. Now we haul only the phosphate tank once a year. Before, I cleaned the nozzles every month. Now I clean them every four months.” Navarrete says that maintaining the system is quick and easy. He checks the filter pressure at the start of each shift and changes the replaceable cartridge filters when the indicator light goes on. Changing all four filters takes about five minutes and can be done while the washer is in production. Prudential’s rinse water recycling system has been operating since June of 2003 with the original membranes. “From our experience with 70-plus systems in the field,” says Lee of Ecosystems, “we estimate membrane life to be four to five years under normal circumstances. We do, however, recommend cleaning the membranes annually.
