This booth is moved on and offline as needed. After the parts are coated they travel out of the Environmental Room to a post mask area where some masking devices are removed and vacuum masking is performed. The process involves vacuuming the uncured powder paint away from surfaces that require masking. “This is something we pioneered in our early years of powder coating,” Stilwagon says. “We have a vacuum line that can be quick-fitted with various tools designed for a particular masking application. We apply this process wherever possible to reduce the material and labor costs associated with the traditional masking devices.” Parts then travel up into the cure oven for approximately 30 minutes depending on line speed. Cybex’s cure oven is a convection style with 60 feet of infrared (IR) boost, which can be utilized when needed. After the cure process, the parts travel down through another cooling tunnel before proceeding to unload. Parts are then unloaded, kitted and palletized to go to the assembly location. Stilwagon says that Cybex’s contractor/manufacturer for the paint line washer, conveyor, ovens, environmental room and cooling tunnels was Systems Technologies, Indianapolis.
