GEORGE KOCH SONS of many involved in Cybex’s project was its primary powder supplier, DuPont. Stilwagon says, “We learned of the strategic partnership between DuPont Powder Coatings and ECC Controls (of Illinois Inc., Rolling Meadows, Ill.). We discovered what [they] had to offer…and saw the possibility of a good fit to our project.” During the initial stages of the planning, Stilwagon says they saw the need for basic monitoring and control primarily for the washer system. “As we learned more about the capabilities of the CPQ3000, it made perfect sense that this was the way to go. The CPQ3000 part of our project evolved into a complex monitoring and control system much more than we originally anticipated,” he says. This has developed into a partnership between Cybex International, ECC and Dupont. “We continue to share information from the system data to make improvements in the line process as well as ideas to help make the system work better for all of us,” he says. John O’Connor, vice president of sales and marketing at ECC adds, “We were approached by DuPont Powder Coatings to jointly develop the CPQ3000 control system for Cybex after seeing the benefits of one of our systems at another customer’s location. After an initial presentation, Cybex, DuPont, and ECC went to work on designing a system that would enhance their lean manufacturing procedures.” The ECC/DuPont CPQ3000 system for Cybex was designed to continuously monitor all the key functions of the coating line process and enhance the line control functions at several strategic process locations. The system provides Cybex the ability to set control limits and alarms for whenever they are out of the limit parameters for the processes they are monitoring. “The system is designed to display realtime data as well as store the data from all the processes we are monitoring including any adjustments made to the set parameters,” Stilwagon says.
