Greenville Magazine - April 2008 - (Page 31) severe weather at WYFF News 4. These storms result from severe weather inching its way along the Gulf Coast in John Cessarich late winter, and working its way north. That puts our peak time for severe weather in the spring. Right now we’re in a La Niña climate cycle, which happens when the water in the eastern tropical Pacific is colder than normal water temperatures. The extreme drought we’re experiencing now is a result of this cycle. However, there is a silver lining to our drought woes. I’m forecasting some relief this spring. Our La Niña cycle is showing signs of weakening, and we’ll gradually see improvement in our drought. We’re expected to reach an average of three and a half inches of rain in April. Of course, some of that rain can come in the form of severe storms. Although we don’t usually see the “monster” tornadoes the Plains states get, we occasionally see smaller tornadoes, like the one last year in Liberty. That’s when you can depend on WYFF News 4 to keep you informed around the clock. When severe weather hits, we’re here throughout the day and night, making sure you’re prepared.
