PFFC - July 2008 - (Page 4) FIRST GLANCE Bon Voyage Diamond Packaging, Rochester, NY, wins a Gold Leaf award from the Foil Stamping & Embossing Assn. for Coty’s new Nautica My Voyage For Her packaging. The reverse tuck cartons feature a 0.018 SBS holographic foilboard. Graphics were achieved by offset printing UV black, UV white, and one PMS color in-line with a UV gloss coating over the holographic portion of the carton. A dull stampable varnish was used on the carton’s lower white portion. Overprinting the holographic foil with transparent blue ink creates a stunning visual effect said to capture the essense of ocean waves and warm summer breezes. The Nautica logo was stamped with pink foil, connecting the product to the prestigious brand. Blue and pink foil-stamped accents add further detail. The bottom portion of the carton was stamped with opaque white foil and embossed with a crosshatch pattern, imparting a unique tactile and visual effect, reminiscent of sandy white beaches. Hot Without Hot Stamping Great Western Industries, Dallas, TX, earns Gold Awards from the Paperboard Packaging Council for The Devil Wears Prada DVD sleeve because it delivers the eye-catching impact of a hologram without using hot-stamped holographic foil. The package has to project the look of a patent-leather shoe. The converter uses a cast-andcure printing process that follows customary four-color printing plus a UV coating. An additional pass lays down a pliable primer. The primed sheet runs under an embossing film followed by an immediate curing process. The result is a striking holographic look with shimmers of light coming off the shoe. nk shribel Refreshing Dip la ConAgra’s new Ro*Tel Ready to Eat Queso Dip is making a splash on store shelves, thanks to a packaging format provided by Printpack, Atlanta, GA. The shrink label covers a custom-molded PP cup thermoformed at Printpack’s Williamsburg, VA, facility. The 2-mil PVC label is rotogravure printed in eight colors and includes a special adhesive that is applied during printing so the label will adhere to the curves of the microwavable container. The label provides a large billboard for ConAgra to show off the product as well as add nutrition facts, ingredients, UPC code, and heating instructions. Did you produce a cool converted product?
