Coater Joins Tech Center GERMANTOWN, WISCONSIN | Faustel announces the addition of a pilot scale model of its Vari-Coat Gravure pressurized gravure coating system to its Process and Technology Center in Germantown. Reportedly, the new technology allows precise coat weight over a range of coating thicknesses without the need to change the gravure cylinder. The Vari-Coat Gravure eliminates air from entering the applicator chamber and thus allows a more consistent coating film at higher speeds. It has proven to be an alternative to slot-die coating in certain applications. The Process and Technology Center incorporates all well-known drying and curing technologies currently used in the converting industry as well as a wide variety of coating, laminating, and winding methods. The line is geared for speeds of 10–2,000 fpm. Web width ranges from 6–24 in. and tensions from 0.18–6 PLI. Our technical experts are behind all your pressure sensitive needs. Green Program Expanding ATLANTA, GA | Georgia-Pacific is extending its Packaging Systems Optimization (PSO) service program to noncustomers. The program is designed to help companies achieve greater profitability and sustainability by identifying packaging supply chain inefficiencies. The program comprises a rigorous, fivestep process in which a team of packaging engineers analyzes a company’s entire packaging supply chain, including package design, material optimization, shelf impact, SKU consolidation, line productivity, material handling, and distribution. Georgia-Pacific is part of Wal-Mart’s Packaging Sustainability Value Network and says PSO can support packaging scorecard goals. The company says it has identified more than $180 million in annual savings for customers since 2002.
