The center honors a large personal financial gift made to the college by longtime flexo philanthropists Ron and Katherine Harper, founders of Harper Corp. of America. Dr. Ben Wright, president of Dunwoody, explained during the ceremony that years ago, the college’s printing program needed new equipment to meet industry standards. “At that point, the Harpers stepped in,” he said. “And we started getting very good at flexo.” Since that time, Dunwoody has won the title of Dr. B. Wright Flexo College of the Year three times. The center includes three classrooms within the production lab, and the Harpers’ donation will endow the school’s newly created Ron and Katherine Harper Scholarship Fund, as well as support other areas of its printing and graphic arts programs. RK AT Getting Better Blown Film W O WESTBOROUGH, MA | Danafilms, a manufacturer of custom PE films, recently upgraded its Westborough plant with another high precision Battenfeld Gloucester blown film line that will add more than 5 million lb of additional capacity. “Our investment ensures our customers get a better, more consistent product on time,” says Steve Crimmin, Danafilms’ sales manager. To provide that consistency, the new system includes an Autoprofile air ring system that monitors and corrects the thickness of the blown film as it exits the die to keep it in extremely tight tolerances. “We find that tolerances are improved by 30 to 40 percent over nonautomatic gauge control lines,” says Crimmin. He adds, “Our new systems also include winders that will handle roll widths to 78 inches and 40 inches in diameter.
