The first jointly developed products are expected to be launched in the next few years. VTT brings to the research cooperation multidisciplinary technology know-how in such areas as printing/converting, chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, electronics, and diagnostics, and Ciba adds extensive experience and know-how in specialty chemicals. According to Ciba, the market for printed disposable electronics is forecast to grow significantly in the coming years. MWV Gets Dual Environmental Certiﬁcation RICHMOND, VA | MWV (MeadWestvaco) has received chain of custody certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) chain of custody standards. Chain of custody is the process of tracking and recording the possession and transfer of wood fiber from the forest of origin, through manufacture, production, and processing states, and finally, to its end use. The dual certification covers the company’s four US-based paperboard mills in Covington, VA; Evadale, TX; Mahrt, AL:, and Charleston, SC. It also applies to sheeting and extruding facilities in Low Moor, VA; Silsbee, TX; and Venlo, Netherlands; and to 12 of its integrated package converting plants in North America, Europe, and Asia. Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership adds the National Assn. of Printing Ink Mfrs. and Envelope Mfrs. Assn. to its ranks. SGP is an independent third-party registration organization formed in 2007 as a collaboration among Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, Flexographic Technical Assn., and the Specialty Graphic Imaging Assn. Its goal is to define sustainable green printing and identify steps to help the industry establish sustainable manufacturing and business practices.
