The agreement strengthens Anteprima’s ongoing relationships with other INX Digital members, along with its offerings of wide and super-wide format digital printing equipment, supplies and service. uXeikon, Itasca, IL, and JV Imaging Solutions (JVIS), Northborough, MA, form a joint referral partnership program in which JVIS will offer its clients the Xeikon 3300 and Xeikon 3000 digital label color presses, and Xeikon will be able to further strengthen its position in the digital labels and packaging market. u3M, St. Paul, MN, through its Commercial Graphics Div., has entered into a licensing agreement with Mondi Coating and Release, Vienna, Austria, granting Mondi limited rights to 3M patented technology. The licensed technology enables Mondi to structure the surface of its release liners in specific patterns related to the manufacture of large-format graphic films so these graphics can be applied easily, quickly, and with fewer defects. Reportedly, this means higher quality graphics and lower installation costs. uCurwood Inc., Oshkosh, WI, a div. of Bemis Co., Neenah, WI, plans to expand its operations in Fremont, OH. The Fremont plant, which employs 141 people, plans to add 50 new positions over the next three years as the expansion goes into effect. Using Renewable Energy WRIGHTSTOWN, WI | Coating Excellence Intl. (CEI) has committed to replace a portion of its traditionally carbon-sourced electrical energy with energy derived from renewable and carbon-free sources. On September 1, CEI began purchasing renewable electrical energy from Wisconsin Public Service’s (WPS) NatureWise program. CEI says this agreement represents the largest quantity of NatureWise renewable carbon-free energy to be purchased in the WPS service territory. This renewable and carbon-free energy comprises 50% wind, 40% recovered landfill gas, and 10% agricultural gas. George Fickau, manager of sustainable packaging at CEI, reports the company could have purchased renewable energy outside of Wisconsin but wanted to stay with a local provider. Says Fickau, “It shows our commitment to be an environmentally responsible manufacturer to our customers, employees, local communities, and Wisconsin. It helps us assist our customers in packaging their products in a more environmentally responsible way.” Menges Expands Roller Repair Services WAUCONDA, IL | Menges Roller Co. has expanded its repair services for rollers used in the converting industry to relieve industry budget stresses. AT O W RK Plate System on the Job ROCHESTER, NY | Autumn Graphics is the first in Canada to install the Kodak Flexcel NX Digital Flexographic platemaking system, which was awarded the 2008 PIA/GATF InterTech Technology Award for excellence in innovative technology. The system is said to provide offset-class gravure quality on a variety of substrates. Autumn Graphics president Ben Abray says of the system, “The benefits are exactly what we hoped for and more.
