Reorganizing and Reenergizing PES
HE IEEE POWER & ENERGY
Society (PES) is reorganizing its technical committees to address committee overlap
and lack of technology coverage.
Three extensive surveys of the committees determined how each viewed
its technology coverage. Several
needed changes were identified: six
or more committees indicated similar technology coverage, signifying
overlap, while other technologies
showed limited or no coverage. A task
force was formed to propose realignment and new committees. At the
IEEE PES General Meeting in Denver,
Colorado, 26-30 July 2015, town hall
meetings reviewed the proposals.
The most significant changes
include combining of some committees or coordinating committees as
well as expansion and rearranging
work among several committees. A
summary of the changes to existing
committees follows:
 The Intelligent Grid and Emerging
Technologies Coordinating Committees are to be combined into
one coordinating committee. This
committee will continue to cover
the emerging technologies that are
developing with the smart grid.
 The Energy Storage and Stationary
Battery Committee is being formed
from the original Stationary Battery
