61-strand 500-kcmil aluminum conductors were used to span the Niagara River and terminate at Buffalo's
Cataract Power & Conduit Company's
Terminal House B (see Figure 15).
Initially, three river crossing circuits
were installed. Two of the three-phase
river crossing circuits were connected
to the two transmission circuits from
the Rankine Station, and the third was
used as a spare circuit. About 1912,
the number of lines was increased
to four, and in 1925 the voltage was
increased to 38.1 kV by reconnecting
the single-phase transformers from
delta to wye. At a later date, the aluminum river crossing conductors were
replaced with stranded #4/0 Copperweld conductors.

Following the 15 July 1899 revised
agreement with Canadian Niagara
that removed the monopoly clause, the
park commissioners signed agreements
with two additional companies to build
powerhouses within the park:

The Electrical
Development Company
of Ontario (Later Toronto
Power)
On 29 January 1903, the park commissioners granted three Canadian investors the right to develop 125,000 hp
within the park. On 18 February 1903,
the investors formed the Electrical
Development Company of Ontario for
the specific purpose of transmitting
power to the City of Toronto, located
on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
Construction started on 2 April 1903
on the powerhouse located upstream
from the Canadian Niagara powerhouse (see Figures 2 and 16). Construction was similar to the Canadian
Niagara powerhouse with turbines located in a pit and three-phase, 25-Hz,
12-kV generators located at grade. The
first five units were rated 13,000  hp
each, and the last seven were rated
