society news IEEE PES 2014 T&D expo a resounding success T The Ieee Power & energy (PeS) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Conference and exposition is not only known for the largest gathering of exhibitors and its very informative technical program but for being a world-class party every two years! Chicago was the setting for the 2014 expo, which was held 14-17 April and attracted attendees from 86 countries and every U.S. state. The opening reception at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry set the tone for the next four days. It was the perfect setting for engineers to mingle over awesome "science projects" while meeting old and new friends. The conference electrified its opening session with general Cochairs ronald Donovan and Joe Svachula showing the audience the highlights of Chicago through the eyes of electrical engineers, complete with "safety first" hard hats. who said engineers aren't funny? Carl Segneri, the PeS north American director for the T&D Conference, invited us to celebrate the conference's anniversary by taking a look back at 50 years of firsts in a video that exemplified T&D and those who have "kept the lights on" (take a look at http://www. ieeet-d.org/movie.html). It was quite moving and the perfect gateway to Session Speaker Daniel Burrus, a futurist who not only predicts but urges you to step up to your biggest challenge and be to ready for your next opportunity.
