Topeka Relocation Guide 2008 - (Page 44) Cultural Activities Southwind Gallery theatre The excitement of live theatre can be experienced nearly every night at the Topeka Performing Arts Center, the Topeka Civic Theatre, the Helen Hocker Performing Arts Center in Gage Park, and at Washburn University. Volunteers are welcome to participate as ushers, tech support, performers, and much more! John, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, and more. The Grape Escape, a wine and food festival benefiting TPAC, is held annually. The event showcases nearly 150 different wines, along with a variety of foods to sample. The money raised allows even more performances to come to the Topeka Performing Arts Center. Topeka Symphony ConCertS anD ShowS The Kansas Expocentre’s 2007-2008 calendar includes the annual Capital City Gun Show, the Shawnee County Fair, the Blue Man Group, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, horse shows, dog shows, farm shows, and bridal shows. Performances like Disney on Ice, Sesame Street Live, and the Doodlebops Live can always entertain the family. Singers such as Keith Urban and Bob Dylan have performed at the Expocentre. All of these performances and showcases bring large crowds to the Topeka area for days and evenings of fun and excitement. The Topeka Performing Arts Center (TPAC) has many different performances every year, including well-known singers and Broadway shows. In the past, there have been performances such as Beauty and the Beast, Stomp, Willy Nelson, Olivia Newton MuSiC The Topeka Symphony Orchestra, the Topeka Community Concert Association, the Topeka Opera Society, the Fine Arts Society, and the Topeka Jazz Workshop offer a variety of entertainment by local, regional, and national performers. The Sunflower Music Festival brings professional musicians from across the country to Washburn University each June, and the city and county parks and recreation departments feature local musical groups in area parks and at Topek a Reloc at ion Gu ide 20 08 44
