Shawnee County also offers a free household hazardous waste disposal service located at 131 NE 46th Street on the first Saturday of every month (except January and July) from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Water Source The Topeka Water Division produces and distributes an average of 25 million gallons of water a day to over 165,000 people in Topeka, Shawnee County and the surrounding areas. Sewage Treatment Plant Topeka’s state-of-the-art wastewater treatment capacity is 17,000,000 MGD (average dry weather flow) at three water pollution control plants, one in the Oakland area east of downtown and the Sherwood Wastewater Treatment Plant in southwest Shawnee County.
