high quality flintlocks coming from
Pedersoli and others. With 50 medals
and four world records shot by muzzleloaders using Davide Pedersoli guns, it
is hard to ignore the impact of Pedersoli
flintlocks, and percussion and in-line
rifles. Marketed by Dixie Gun Works
and other distributors in the United
States, it would be good to check out
the new offerings on the web. One of
my favorite flintlocks is a massive .54
American Jaeger that not only looks
at home in the Pennsylvania woods, it
has taken its fair share of deer, bears and
caribou across North America.
There also are still kit rifles being
produced by Traditions and Dixie Gun
Works that make it possible for the
hunter/builder to construct his or her
own flintlock, and, if you’re interested,
higher quality custom-built rifles also
are available from Pennsylvania longrifle gunsmiths.
Speaking of tradition, or should we
say Traditions Performance Firearms,
there is a new “Deerhunter Redi-Pak”
that is a flintlock with everything a
new hunter needs, except the black
powder. There are four different models
to choose from, including the Realtree
Xtra with a premium CeraKote barrel.
This lightweight rifle tips the scales at
six pounds and is priced $300 to $400,
depending on the model.
Traditions continues to pay attention to the Pennsylvania flintlock
market by improving its PA Pellet
Accelerator. It now sports a stronger
flintlock system for better sparks, an
accelerator breech plug for easy removal (in three turns) and maintains
its ability to use bulk black powder or
pelletized Pyrodex. This rifle is in the
$400 to $500 range.
And with a tip of the coonskin hat

to the classic flintlock muzzleloaders,
Traditions maintains its line of Pennsylvania (longrifle with brass patch box
and furniture); Tennessee (plain longrifle); Kentucky (1:66 rifling, ideal for
shooting lead roundballs); and Hawken
Woodsman (half-stock with adjustable
rear sights). This line of guns pushes
the envelope from $400 to $800.

tcarms.com) is no stranger to Pennsylvania, as untold numbers of its
flintlock Hawken line have made their
presence known since the beginning of
the special flintlock-only deer season
of pre-Bicentennial Celebration fame.
Today, the T/C line has hunters thinking interchangeable systems that allow
the in-line shooter to switch barrels
from muzzleloading to centerfire to
shotgun shells.
The T/C Pro Hunter rifle not only
offers this combination of replacement
barrels, it also offers in-line shooters a
gun with a 28-inch barrel (useful for
shooting three pellets (150 grains of
powder) and a longer sighting plain
for shooting open sights. A Weather
Shield, fluted, stainless steel barrel with
1:28 rifling, is well suited for shooting
long sabots of jacketed bullets to distances beyond two football fields with
accuracy. A swing-hammer makes the
gun more scope-friendly and the speed
breech allows for a “90-degree and out”
Speed Breech (plug). A new FlexTech
Stock and SIMS Limbsaver recoil pad
provide a 43 percent reduction in felt
recoil from the magnum loads. Prices
vary from $650 to $745 and are driven
by selected features.
