the trigger guard. With a 28-inch
barrel and 6.5-pound weight, it is a
fast-swinging muzzleloader for the early
muzzleloader season. It also uses the
patented Speed Breech system and a
1:28 rate of rifling for stabilizing sabotted bullets pushed by magnum loads.
The Triumph is priced from $580 to
$620, depending upon what type of
barrel/stock combination is selected.
The T/C Triumph has seen a lot of
airtime on network hunting shows.
Special features include a FlexTech
composite stock, four Energy Burners that reduce recoil by 43 percent,
traction-grip panels on the forend, a
Weather Shield corrosion-resistant
finish, and the “Bone Collector” logo.
The 28-inch fluted Weather Shield
barrel sports a QLA muzzle system,
Speed Breech XT patent-pending
breech plug, and fiber-optics sights.
The Triumph uses a #209 primer ignition, is drilled and tapped for a scope
and includes an aluminum Power Rod
ramrod. Like all of the break-action
T/C muzzleloaders, the Triumph uses a
sabot belching twist of 1 in 28 inch. It
weighs 6½ pounds. with a total length
of 42½ inches, and importantly, is still
made in the U.S. Prices vary from $650.
When it comes to break-action
muzzleloaders and their “easy out/
easy in” hand-operated breech plugs,
my experience is that they are not
so easy. Maybe that is why T/C and
Traditions include a tool for turning
out the breech plugs that gum-up from
repeated shooting.
There is one company that has
seemed to conquer this problem. Connecticut Valley Arms (www.cva.com)
has created a “Quick-Release Breech

Plug” that really does release cleanly
and quickly. It is a no-nonsense rotating breech plug that turns out with easy
finger pressure, a real advantage for
jammed/overly fouled guns in the field.
The CVA Accura V2 Muzzleloading
Rifle is a new and improved version
of CVA’s popular Accura. This rifle is
equipped with a 27” premium Bergara
barrel that makes it one of the most
accurate break-action muzzleloading
rifles that CVA has ever produced. The
frame design is very compact and contains very few moving parts for lighter
weight and more reliability, and the
new Quick-Release Breech Plug allows
for easy removal even after the rifle has
been fired numerous times. The stainless steel finish and durable composite
stock, with a new SoftTouch coating
and rubber grip panels, will provide
great control. The V2 is priced from
$399 to $499, depending on options.
The CVA Accura Mountain Rifle
measures 40 inches, butt to muzzle. Its
25-inch fluted Bergara barrel is quite
an improvement. While not a “switch
barrels” such as the CVA Apex line,
this dedicated muzzleloader has a very
accessible breech area for loading primers and clean up afterwards. The tawnycolored WeatherGuard finish reduces
the shine of the stainless steel barrel
while making it resistant to corrosion.
The CVA Accura Mountain Rifle
uses the 1:28 rifling to send its recommended PowerBelt AeroLite bullets
downrange with sub-two-minute accuracy at 100 yards, using two Hodgdon
Powder White Hot pellets. While there
are no iron sights on this gun, it comes
equipped with a DuraSight scope
mount, a Quake Claw rubberized sling
and it costs about $600.
