Sand Addiction - August 2007 - (Page 32) Although not quite as nice as my Honda 450R, even at 6’ 1”, everything felt pretty comfortable. With a slight adjustment of the handle bars and a new seat, I think that it will be fine. KFX450R Specifications •Engine: Liquid-cooled, fourper cylinder •Displacement: 449cc stroke single, SOHC, four valves •Bore x stroke: 96 x 62.1mm •Ignition: Digital AC-CDI •Starting: Electric reverse chain Electric Start: The electric start worked well. If you are new to EFI, you will have to get used to letting the fuel pump prime before starting. With no carburetor, the KFX450R doesn’t have a choke. In the choke’s place is an idle adjustment knob that increases idle during cold starts. A kick-start option is available from Kawasaki for those who want to shed a few more pounds, but a battery will still be necessary. Handling: The front of the chassis is very similar in design to the popular 250R Roll Design front end. Although it is only 46” wide up front, the lower A-arms are mounted to a single box-section lower frame which allows for longer arms without increasing the width. It also has the least amount of bump steer of any 450 ATV on the market. Out in the dunes, the KFX450R felt very light, nimble, and predictable. The suspension setup from the factory was decent for my riding style. The shocks come with compression and rebound adjustments in the front, and the rear has dual- •Fuel Injection: 32-bit digital, with 42mm Keihin throttle body •Transmission: Five-speed with •Final drive: Two-wheel drive, •Frame type: Aluminum double cradle, racing type 8.5 in •Front suspension / wheel travel: Dual A-arms, coil-over shocks / •Rear suspension / wheel travel: voir shock, dual-rate spring / 10.0 in Swingarm with piggy-back reser- Pedal-type rear brake rotor reduces unsprung weight and helps clean the brake pads for more efficient braking performance in difficult conditions.
