Later he and his family made the trek in a van conversion towing a flat bed trailer. These days, their standards for “roughing it” have changed just a bit, but their love for the sand has not. Pat and his wife, Shelly, travel in style in their 2006 American Eagle by Fleetwood. They chose the American Eagle because it offered everything they needed to haul their toys to the sand, their primary destination. “We have always liked our Fleetwoods,” says Pat, “and we • needed that 15,000 lb. towing hitch.” • • They really did. The Wirts (two adults, three • growing kids, a few of their friends, and a dog) • haul a 25’ stacker trailer behind their motor • home. In the trailer they pack a 5-seat long• travel buggy, a Rhino, two quads, a 70 threewheeler, and a full shop of tools, including • spare parts for the toys. The motor home has • 34 www.sandaddiction.com sleeping space for everybody and, equally important, has a 120 gallon water tank to keep them clean and refreshed. Exterior Another factor in Pat’s decision-making process was the motor and transmission package. The American Eagle has the towing capacity to safely move everything they want to take with them.
