SideXSide Action - January 2008 - (Page 46) Utility Meets Fun T he versatility of the Side X Side never seems to amaze me. Whether you’re into dirt, mud, snow, ranching, or even water, a UTV can compliment any of these terrains and hobbies. Recently, I had the chance to travel down to beautiful, sunny San Diego, CA for a great mix between work and play. Every year, Mission Bay is awoken by the roar of thousands of horsepower and, to be quite honest, some of the largest speed boats I’ve ever seen. The annual Thunder Boat Regatta takes place ORK PLAY AND on September 14-16th and I had the opportunity to get behind the scenes to check out some of these awesome powerboats. It was apparent as soon as I walked through the gates that this event was going to turn into work real quick, as I heard a sound that was unlike the monstrous roar of the larger boats, and then I saw it, a fully decked out Yamaha Rhino. What in the world was a Rhino doing at a boating event? Then I saw another SXS, and after about five minutes I had counted at least four that were buzzing the pits carrying people, cargo, or even haul- While this Rhino looks playful, its hard work has helped Mike Follmer win his watercraft races. ing some of the boats in and out of the water.
