SideXSide Action - February 2008 - (Page 67) C TRAIL RIDING SIDE X SIDE The basics of trail riding with your Side X Side, along with a couple of the hottest riding spots in the United States. -By Cody Fletcher Some OHV trails are 50” wide and not all Side X Side vehicles will fit on the trail. ences you can have if you know what you’re doing. Always use common sense when driving, obey the laws of the trail, and be a courteous driver. You’ll get to your destination eventually; take your time and enjoy all the sights that the greatoutdoors have to offer. Side X Side Action Magazine is a strong believer in the TREAD LIGHTLY philosophy and we hope that our readers will do the same. Keeping the trails clean and only riding on designated riding trails will ensure that future riders will be able to ride the same trails that we ride today. Always wear your helmet and, above all, have fun. hances are if you own a Side X Side unit you are more than likely going to be taking it out to your local off-road park or trails. Side X Sides work great for trail riding. They are relatively small, they have 4-wheel drive, and all you have to do is sit down and drive. Many Side X Sides are used for utility based implements, but even those machines like to get out and have a little fun on the trail. That is why we wanted to share a couple places for you to get out and lay down some rubber. You and your Side X Side can go on just about any trail in the world, but there are some extra rules on certain trails that are enforced for UTVs. There are also some ATV-specific trails out there that have restricting trail widths that only allow 50” wide vehicles on the trail. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of SXSs that boast a 50” or under wheel width, but the Polaris Ranger RZR is one of them. So if you’re heading out to a trail system, make sure you know the trail’s width requirements or restrictions before you go. You will also want to make sure that the trail you’re planning on riding is an OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) approved trail. Some Jeep trails are only open to street legal vehicles, so unless you’ve registered your SXS with the DMV and have a license plate you cannot ride these trails.
