SideXSide Action - March 2008 - (Page 16) Tips & Tricks - Hunting Special > Bow Hunting Stalk Like A Pro Bow hunting is a true sport, and stalking in for the shot is just as much work as the shot itself. Using a range finder to stake out the surrounding area of your shot will help you once it’s time to draw the bow. By ranging out several landmarks in the area you will have a better range of the buck once he comes into your shot. Waiting to take your shot is very importaint, and grazing deer will typically turn in a circle. Once the deer drops its head and turns from you, wait until the deer comes back up and towards you, that’s when you take your shot. However, most of them make your machine louder. In hunting the last thing you want to do is scare away your prey. Stick with the stock exhaust if you plan on hunting with your SXS or try one of the aftermarket exhaust1. silencers on the market. An aftermarket silencer will greatly diminish your decible output and keep the ani1. mals your hunting in the area. Camouflage is no good if they can hear you coming from a mile away. Atv Silencer Benz System - $159.00 www.atvsilencer.com High Box Capacity If you use your Side X Side a lot for hunting or you’re a part of a large group of SXS owners who like to hunt. Consider purchasing a universal type gun rack, rather than one that only fits one particular vehicle. This way if one vehicle breaks down, you can continue your hunt. Or if you don’t take your particular SXS hunting you can bring your gun rack along to hold your guns. Moose Utilites SXS Universal Gun Rack - $141.95 www.mooseutilities.com One thing many hunters overlook when deciding on their SXS purchase is the max box capacity. Many people look at the max payload capacity and mistake that for the amount of weight the vehicle can carry, but this is the amount of weight the vehicle can carry overall. The box lies right over the rear axle and too much weight over this axle can result in poor traction, turning and can be very dangerous on unstable terrain. You never want to exceed the max box capacity on a Side X Side, heck, I wouldn’t even recommend meeting that capacity. Most are determined on flat ground, not over rough terrain. If you’re going to be hunting large game this can be very important when getting your kill back to camp without having to make two trips. Diesel units are built tough and usually carry a higher capacity due to their working nature. They will also have more low end torque to get you out of deep canyons. 16 SIDE X SIDE ACTION MAGAZINE http://www.cabelas.com http://www.mooseutilities.com http://www.atvsilencer.com http://www.greatdayinc.com http://www.greatdayinc.com
