SideXSide Action - March 2008 - (Page 24) Legend Off-Road Air Suspension Install Photos by: Legend Off-Road While attending the Black Hills UTV event in 2007, we ran into Jesse James of Legend Off-Road Air Suspension. Jesse makes air suspension rides for road bikes and, for the past year, has been testing and making sets for Side X Sides. We got a chance to check out Legend’s workshop and get a crash course on the new air ride suspension. Properly Support Your UTV Prior to Air Suspension Installation! 1 The Legend shock is machined out of 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum and exclusive Kevlar/Rubber air suspension technology. To control the amount of air in the shock, an onboard air compressor is installed. What are the benefits of replacing a set of stock shocks with Legend’s air ride system you ask? Well, the shocks increase wheel travel and provide better articulation over rough terrain. By having the capability to control the amount or air in the shock by the click of a switch, you are now able to increase your load capacity when hauling heavy loads. When you’re ready to hit the trials, releasing air out of the shock will bring you back to a nice comfortable ride. Another benefit I see with the air shocks is being able to adjust your ride height. One touch of a switch will raise your Side X Side clearance, making that rocky terrain smooth and easy. But here’s my favorite part – loading the Side X Side in your toy hauler is a piece of cake. Some trailer clearances are greater than others, but in our case we have to let the air out of our tires to clear the inside of the trailer. With the Legend air suspension, I just let the air out of the shocks and drive right in. Keep reading for a step-by-step installation guide on the air ride suspension… Step One: Mount front shocks 2 Step Two: Mount back shocks 24 SIDE X SIDE ACTION MAGAZINE Note: Duplicate steps for front and rear giving attention to spacer orientation. A. Remove stock shocks. B. Apply blue loc-tite to fas teners and install Legend off-road air suspension. C. Using compressed air, carefully seat air-springs on the shock body while holding the top of the bag in place. SAME AS STEP ONE. Note: 04 model years use large spacers on both top and bottom shock mounts.
