SideXSide Action - March 2008 - (Page 30) W Rhino-mite! By Red e have all been there. In our Rhinos, sideways, dirty, dusty and asking ourselves “How did I get here?” If you have not asked yourself that question yet, no worries, you will. After assessing the situation, we put the Rhino back on all fours and took a damage report. The report came back and it said we had to replace the roll cage. As we all came to an agreement that since the Rhino was going to be under the knife, so to speak, what else can we do to it? Why not beef up the suspension, enhance the outer plastics and, of course, the roll cage. The kicker to this whole wipe out was that we were planning on taking this particular Rhino with us to the Oregon Dune Fest a week later! We made a couple of phone calls and without hesitation Full Bore Innovations, Fusioncoat, Fabtech, and Triton Motorsports helped us out with our shopping list of modifications. and greatest for the Rhinos: a red plastic body kit with matching leg minders. Part of the set also includes the dashboard cover and a matching tailgate cover that hides the hinges. What was amazing about the body kit was that the body kit itself was six inches wider than the stock plastics and had enough clearance to support twenty-seven inch tires if need be. Full Bore Innovations out of Portland, Oregon sent us their latest When it came to the suspension upgrade part of the project, Fabtech in Chino, California was the first name that came to mind. Maybe it is just me, but Fabtech is the only name I think of when it comes to suspensions. We wanted a longtravel kit and we decided on Fabtech’s six-over kit. The reason we picked this particular kit was for the following: the front and rear control arms feature 1.25 OD .120 wall 4130 Chromoly tubing with dimple-die gusset plates. The arms mount to the frame via graphiteimpregnated Delrin bushings. Another reason for this kit was the front upper arms utilize ¾” Teflon- lined heim ends with lower arms receiving 7/8” uniballs. The moneymaker of this setup is the Dirt Logic 2.0 Resi coil over shocks that are modified after Fabtech’s race shock line. These shocks come with key components such as 2” OD threaded nickel-plated steel body, 2.25” OD steel reservoir, large 7/8” OD induction hardened chrome piston rod, and Eibach coil springs for increased off-road life. The reservoirs also include eight braided cloth o-ring Resi hoses. Not to make the suspension stand out and be noticed, all of the components were finished in a gun metal gray powdercoat. Finally, when it came to the roll cage, we have the technology to make it stronger, bigger and have that beefy off-road look we all like so much.
