SideXSide Action - March 2008 - (Page 53) BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT What I found when I first walked into the shop was product upon product upon product! I felt like a kid in a candy store looking at the rows of bumpers, foot pegs, bed rails, and much more. Once my jaw was put back into place I began to walk around with Fred to see how the products that we see on the shelves come to be. First we walked over to the welding stations where florescent blue and white lights flashed and the crackling of welders fusing together aluminum could be heard. Put on your glasses because this section of the building could light up a small city, with at least twelve people welding at any given time. Pro Armor has anywhere from 60-80 employees on staff depending on the time of year and how busy they are. While watching the progress of the products go from raw material to a completed product, I could see the dedication that each employee had in making that individual product. It didn’t seem so much like an assembly line, but more of a custom fabrication shop where detail is as important as numbers. You know, the old saying “Quality, not Quantity.” I noticed a small table that looked like a fabrication jig, although it was much more involved that a simple jig. Fred told me that one of the things Pro Armor prides itself on is proper fitment. “It’s important for an aluminum part that has long pieces and bolt holes to fit up the first time without having to alter it. The last thing someone wants to do when they buy a product for their ATV or SXS is to have to muscle that part on. They should bolt right up, the first time, without any hassle,” Fred explained.
