SXS >RACING SIDE X SIDES DEBUT AT 2007 OFFERED SOME BIG BREAKS IN THE NEW SXS CLASS CORR WRITTEN BY > CORY WELLER W PHOTO JASON ZINDROSKI e remember watching off-road truck racing on TV for the first time a couple of years back – probably on a lazy Saturday afternoon on a weekend that we weren’t racing our quads. It wasn’t on a mainstream network, but after surfing through the cable channels for a bit, a mud-encrusted truck sliding full-speed through a rutted corner caught our eye, and we were instantly riveted. Staring wide-eyed, we slowly sat up and watched in amazement as the huge, screaming Pro trucks set out to do battle. And thus, our introduction to Championship Off-Road Racing began. Back then, we never would have imagined we would have an opportunity to actually be a part of that very same series, rubbing elbows and racing with some of the best off-road racers in the nation; but, here we are in 2007, with this years season wrapped up, and a new season looming ahead of us with so much promise and anticipation in the air! Now…..how did a Yamaha Rhino racer become involved in a series like CORR, you ask? During the 2006 season, those in charge at CORR began receiving inquiries from a number of Rhino racers who were dying to get out onto a CORR track and race in front of all those dedicated off-road race fans. Was there a place for UTVs in CORR? That was the big question, and apparently there was – for in 2007 the first UTV CORR classes were created and the first UTV race was impressive enough to ensure that these classes would continue for at least the remainder of the season. While CORR was open to the idea of a UTV class in its midst, it wasn’t ready to fully assume the responsibility of coordinating the racers and writing the rulebook; this is where XXX Rhinosports (Wired For Sound Motorsports) came into the picture. XXX Rhinosports was in the process of building some of the coolest looking short-course racers around and were happy to take on this new challenge for CORR. They created a comprehensive set of rules for the newly created UTV class, as well as taking charge of organizing all of the racers, talking with CORR officials and generally running the UTV show. All CORR had to do at each race was present a time slot for the UTVs to race in, and XXX and the racers did the rest!
