The rebound adjustment is one of my favorite options on these shocks. While many companies offer only a compression adjustment, Elka includes a rebound adjustment that gives you that much more in ride comfort and fine-tuning. With the rebound adjustment, there is a little flathead screw at the bottom of the shock to allow for easy access. With the simple turn of the screw counter-clockwise, you can speed up your return to ride height and have a fast rebound. With the turn of the screw clockwise, you can slow up the return to ride height and have a slower rebound. This option allows you to keep proper traction, with your tires and wheels glued to the ground in adverse terrain. The rebound adjustment will also become your best friend when you have the throttle pegged and you hit that one off-rhythm bump that just throws you into the “Oh Shoot!” mode. You’ll appreciate this feature as you’re staring down at your front bumper looking at the terrain – hoping that you’re in four-wheel-drive to pull the front end up. ADJUST YOUR RIDE: Adjusting your Elka shocks is very easy if you know where to look. The low & high speed compression adjustment shown here controls the speed of compression dampening, giving more control over big or small bumps (Left). The threaded pre-load adjustment controls the ride height and extra spring compression for large loads (Right). The rebound adjustment controlls the speed in which the shock is put back to full extension after compression (Bottom.) For my two cents: With everyone’s riding styles being a little different, I personally like to set my shock preload to the bare minimum with spring compression in the place where there is no play with the spring or coil. I really like to have my compression turned up and rebound turned down (slow) to optimize the joys of jumping and seeing what I can break that weekend. (Lately, I’ve been on a pretty good run without breaking anything – knock on wood!) And, lastly for the record, I don’t touch the nitrogen PSI setting or oil weight in these shocks. I keep them untouched from the factory, and this makes for easier adjustments on the fly and less maintenance. With all of the options available on the Elka shock absorber, you can really reduce the time you spend bucking like a rodeo rider through whoops, jumps, and technical terrain.
