+ M I N E X P O | DEPARTMENT AND FEATURES Fall/Winter 2012 Worldwide Presence At MINExpo, numerous companies and organizations promoted their international capabilities. BY BRIAN SALGADO lthough held every four years in Las Vegas, MINExpo has never struggled to attract companies from around the world, and the 2012 edition was no exception. Here are a few companies that garnered attention in the exhibition halls with innovative products, new services and some additional networking opportunity for industry players looking to expand geographically. In Germany, Bauma 2013 is slated to set a new record as an all-encompassing construction industry trade show located in Munich. This year’s show will be bigger than ever, with at least 450 companies on the waiting list to become an exhibitor despite an expansion to 570,000 square meters of exhibition space. Bauma organizers added a mining focus to the show in 2004, and organizers have been promoting this section to potential attendees throughout the world ever since, including individuals attending 2012 MINExpo. Exhibition Manager Melitta Arkossy says there are plenty of reasons for American businesses to trek to Europe for Bauma in April. “It is quite big and will be very interesting for visitors from America,” Arkossy says. Klaus Stockmann, deputy managing director of Verband Deutscher Maschinen und Anlagenbau (VDMA), the German engineering federation, maintains that Germany and Europe as a whole are often A 10
