also can be modified to carry a drill rig. In this case, the
brake lights and rear bumper assembly are moved to the
modified rear-end. Components can be manufactured or
sourced in a blend of make/buy. Most of the rigs' components are manufactured in-house. Some components are
sourced from outside based on volume.

TRUCK MOUNTING
Watson says its engineers work hand-in-hand with their
counterparts at several major truck manufacturers to
develop carriers for the drills to sit on without breaking
trucks in half. The truck must be stiff enough so when
the mast jacks up in the air it will withstand the loads of
the rig. This requires balancing enough stiffness to withstand the drilling operations but retaining enough flexibility to travel over roads. Approximately 70 percent of
the company's drill rigs are mounted on trucks.
The type of chassis that Watson uses for its 1100 series
rigs is the same type that would be used for a standard
tandem axle truck. On some of the larger machines, twin
steer or tri-drive trucks may be required, and for the largest rubber tire rigs, crane carriers are utilized.
Watson's engineers work with their counterparts at several truck manufacturers..

Customers often select a truck on the basis of service
relationships they may have with a certain manufacturer,
the proximity of its sales or service operations to them,
discounts they may qualify for or a specific model or size
of truck they need.
Another of Watson's competitive advantages is that not
only are its rigs manufactured in the United States, but
its customer service and parts are also located domestically. Watson's rigs are designed for easy maintenance.
Customers also can maintain Watson rigs themselves, the
company says.
Whether Watson is called to perform maintenance on
a rig depends on how well-staffed and trained the customer's maintenance personnel are about the equipment.
Customers with full-blown mechanics' shops with diagnostic equipment usually are well-qualified to perform
maintenance on Watson's rigs as long as their mechanics
receive the proper training from Watson.
Watson rigs carry a standard 120-day warranty in writing. The company's salespeople follow their customers'
rigs through the build cycle and are often on-site when
the rig is delivered to the customer's yard. They often
will assist with installation and training for a new rig,
and some have personally tended to a service call with
Watson's customer service team. EMI
