All the plumbing fixtures, faucets and
other equipment in the bathrooms and
the eye-wash emergency units in Pepco's
Dallas headquarters are products sold
by the company. "We've made our entire
building a place to show off the products
we sell," Parham says.
Pepco also has two vans it uses for
mobile training. "A major builder has
changed over a product line that we use,
so we have been having training vans
onsite at the different contractors every
day doing training, it seems like for the
last two-and-a-half weeks," Mike Parham
says. "We're able to pull up the training
van and do training at a jobsite that is under construction or renovation."

distributors it represents.

a 35-seat training center in Dallas and
a wet room that we have live training
in," Parham says. The company's Dallas
headquarters measures approximately
90,000 square feet in total on five acres
of land.
"That headquarters is our heartbeat,"
Parham says. "We have digital conference
rooms from small to large. Our Houston
facility is really just a warehouse for that
region." The Dallas headquarters devotes
approximately 650 square feet to its wet
room. A smaller training center is used in
the 28,000-square-foot Houston facility
that seats approximately 12.

LIVE EQUIPMENT
The wet room is used for hands-on training with hooked-up, live equipment. "We
have functioning units - a water heater
is hooked up to natural gas and water so
we can fire it and run water through it,"
Charlie Parham says. "We can see units in
their working state and either take them
apart or otherwise use them for training
in a real-life environment."

to troubleshoot customers' problems.
"We can diagnose the problem, what to
look for and how to fix the problem with
a part, and display the features and benefits of the product," Plumbing Sales Manager Greg Hammer points out.
"We even have a water hookup so we
can actually hook up backflow or do differential comparative testing with live
water pressure on top-flow analysis, so
we could compare different manufacturers' products," Hammer continues. "So if
a guy is using one brand and we have his
team over for education and he wants to
know the difference with another brand,
we can hook up that brand and show him
under water pressure and hookup ours in
real-life conditions as far as maintaining
service and what to look for in a true jobsite situation."
Inside the wet room are three water heaters, water filtration systems,
emergency showers, hydronic piping
and several types of trench drains to
demonstrate the differences in their
water-handling capabilities. Everything in the wet room - even the clamps
that dangle from the struts to hang pipe

Where and which products Pepco represents is determined mostly by the way
the manufacturers divide up their sales
territories. Generally, the air conditioning and HVAC products are represented
by Pepco employees in Texas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico,
HVAC Sales Manager Steve Good declares. Plumbing products are represented in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico,
although Pepco also represents some in
Arkansas.
Most of the HVAC products are used
with forced air systems, although Pepco
represents some products for hydronic systems. Most of the fire protection
products relate to plumbing, such as fire
sprinklers and backflow, and not electrical devices such as alarms.
Fire protection systems that use sprinklers are being installed in residential
homes. "They're not mandated by state
law, but one of these days, they will be,"
Hammer asserts.
Some municipalities are mandating
sprinklers on mostly larger homes - 3,500
square feet and up - but that depends on
the municipality. "The other situation
