The acquisition gave OneSource access to all the benefits, assets and knowledge of Sonepar while staying local
and maintaining the way it goes to market every day. "It's a
unique model that's great for us because we started in 1983
in this market and have evolved into the largest distributor in this market by working with and for our customers,"
Smith adds. "We've built everything we have around customer requests, and for Sonepar to come in and allow us to
continue to flourish in that same model is different than any
other company."
Since joining Sonepar, OneSource has completed three
acquisitions itself, which Smith says is a testament to how
independent the company remains. "We are delighted to

OneSource employs 550 people and offers a number of training and development programs through its ERP system for
further growth within the company. OneSource also runs
a strong internship program and high-potential candidate
program, looking to attract younger generations and recent
college graduates to the industry.
"We've got about five years' worth of recruits in that program, approaching 20 people now," Smith says. "We are constantly attracting that young talent and putting them into intensive training programs with senior leaders geared towards
how we redefine what an inside salesperson is going to look
like and how they will behave differently in than in the past.
Not just inside sales, but also field and logistics staff. We are
having to modernize is the best way to describe it."
The Sonepar name has also assisted OneSource in attracting new talent as it has an extensive recruiting network
to leverage in identifying new candidates. OneSource is
also attending recruiting events at local colleges to sell its
culture and the industry. Recent recruits are sent to these
events to share their experiences and what they are learning
with potential candidates.
"The kids are coming out of many of the colleges and hearing about the financial district jobs, Amazon and all these
places that are sexier than distribution," Smith admits.
"Distribution is a great industry to get into and can provide
a long, sustained living for yourself. We put a lot of work
around recruiting efforts."
Moving forward, OneSource's goal is to continue to grow
profitably by continuously improving its three areas of focus: operational excellence and lean efforts, digital efforts
and web applications, and collaboration with customers and
suppliers to increase marketshare.
"We are trying to automate as many transaction as we can
to save customers steps in doing business with us and make it
easier to do business with us," Smith says. "We are also collaborating within our own company and with customers to make
sure we are providing and driving real value to help them save
money. Collaboration with suppliers ensures we are doing
the best job we can in the marketplace. Lean, digital and collaboration is the message we are sending every month." 
