The Power to Cut Your Taxes is in Your Hands A Message from John Sebree, Florida Association of REALTORS® Vote ‘Yes on 1’ on the January 29th Constitutional Amendment • The homestead exemption will double from $25,000 to $50,000 for most Floridians • Homeowners will be able to transfer their Save Our Homes benefit – up to $500,000 – to a new homestead if they sold their home in 2007 or later. • Businesses will have a new $25,000 exemption for “tangible personal property.” • The annual growth of taxable value for non-homestead properties, such as businesses, rental properties and second homes, is limited to 10 percent per year, excluding school levies. Early this summer, lawmakers passed landmark legislation to create the largest tax cut in Florida’s history. What passed was a two part process that put the people in control: Step one was a law that required local governments to roll-back taxes this year, and then to grow at a responsible rate in the future. Step two is in the hands of the people of Florida. • On January 29, the people will have the power to cut their taxes in a historic way by passing the constitutional amendment. • Floridians have the power and choice to lower their tax bill.
