PROView - August 2008 - (Page 7) Upcoming Elections The 2008 election is just around the corner and candidates are in full gear raising money and knocking on doors. The PRO Board of Directors recommends the following candidates in the following political races: Pinellas County Property Appraiser Frank Gregoire Pinellas County Commission At-Large District 1: Neil Brickfield Pinellas County Commission At-Large District 3: Rene Flowers Pinellas County Commission Single-Member District 5: Karen Seel Pinellas County School Board At-Large District 1: Max Loden Pinellas County School Board At-Large District 2: Ron Walker Pinellas County School Board At-Large District 4: Robin Wikle These candidates need your help to win. Please contact the individual campaigns if you are interested in placing a yard sign at your office, knocking on doors or making phone calls. All of these candidates have a great chance to win but they still need your time and support. Critics state that Amendment 5 will hurt schools. Truth is, however, that schools would continue to be funded in Florida – and held harmless – under Amendment 5. This is simply a different and fairer way of funding the school system. Due to provisions in the Amendment, the Florida Legislature will be required to fund schools at the same level the following year, adjusted forward. That means schools will still receive full funding in 2010 while home owners get a combined $10 to 11 billion property tax cut! The future of the real estate profession and the future of Florida’s tax structure are at stake. Your voice power and influence are needed to help pass Amendment 5. In the coming days and weeks PRO will ramp up our efforts to help pass Amendment 5. We will be launching an Amendment 5 section on our website, speaking in the community and putting out yard signs throughout the community. If you have any upcoming events you would like to have a representative from PRO attend to speak on behalf of Amendment 5, please contact me. As of now PRO has not taken a formal position on inclusionary zoning; however the Public Policy Committee will be meeting in August with local county officials and other organizations to decide on a formal stance. I want to open up this process to all PRO members so if you have any questions concerns or comments regarding Inclusionary Housing please feel free to email me at bshuford@tampabayrealtor.com and let me know how you feel, so that I may present your concerns to the Public Policy committee when they meet in August.
