Verify Java Version Check to ensure that you have the recommended version of Java installed for your operating system. Hot Cup of Java by DeWayne Combs – MLS Technology Support Sounds good doesn’t it, but what is Java? Many websites today, including Tempo 5 and FAR’s Transaction Desk, are more than just web pages. They are actually applications like Microsoft Word or Excel. The difference is that they are accessed from the internet. In order for these “web apps” to do all the complex things they do, one of the things your computer needs is the latest version of Java. NOTE: If you recently completed your Java software installation, you may need to restart your browser (close all browser windows and reopen) before verifiying your installation. How To Update Your Java 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. Point your browser to www.java.com Have You Got Your ActiveX On? by Daniel Flynn – MLS Technology Support 3. Click the “Free Java Download” button The Tempo 5.0 system requires a one-time installation of ActiveX controls on each computer you will be using to access Tempo 5.0. ActiveX controls are a type of “helper” program that, once installed, gives your Internet Explorer browser additional capabilities. You may already be familiar with ActiveX controls with other Internet programs. Your bank may require a similar installation for on-line banking services, and certain web mail services may also require ActiveX control installations. Installation of these controls are vital because they provide important functionality in Tempo 5.0 that allow you to: • Collate and print multiple report types • Print to an Adobe PDF file. • “Drag-and-drop” fields into your own personal reports • Re-size property and agent photos • Create and revise the Tempo one-line results reports when searching in Tempo (called results “Grids”) ActiveX controls are very easy to install and only have to be done once, so the sooner you install these helpful September 2008 4. Follow the instructions. 5.
