Diversity MBA Magazine - April 2008 - (Page 12) Top 50 Companies for Diverse Managers to Work: Diversity Is Not Optional By Sheryl Nash-Nance According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the non-Hispanic white share of the U.S. population will fall from 74% in 1995 to 64% in 2020. By 2050, Hispanics will represent the largest share of population growth, with the African-American population nearly doubling. Couple the people of color boom with technological changes and an increasingly global economy, and diversity becomes a business imperative. Companies have little wiggle room not to create an inclusive culture that represents all ethnic groups at every level, from the mail room to the board room. Without a broad, deep employee network, companies won’t be able to capture or keep customers who come from an increasing range of regions, races, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. In our previous two years we focused on Black MBAs in the workplace. In our third year, now as Diversity MBA, we broaden our focus to include all diverse MBAs and the global marketplace. Our studies focused on company diversity in 2006, and corporate recruitment process and programs last year. This time we go a step further, spotlighting the CEO’s commitment, intentional recruitment strategies of diverse managers, representation among diverse managers, and the overall strategic effort to implement accountability for diversity efforts that foster development into the executive ranks. 12 1 Bank of America 2 Verizon Communications Inc. 3 Wal-Mart Stores Inc. 4 Allstate Corp. 5 JPMorgan Chase & Co. 6 Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.
