The company’s Strategic Diversity Model is structured around three basic areas: workforce, workplace and marketplace. WellPoint created a comprehensive diversity-training program for all associates. It provides training for all management team members and executive officers to ensure that all WellPoint leaders understand its commitment to diversity and use the tools designed to assist them in managing and supporting this commitment. The company has also stated its dedication to include minority-owned suppliers whenever possible. All departments and levels of the organization are represented on the council, with a member of the senior executive management team serving as advisor. The council also mentors satellite councils, which manage diversity on a local level. There are 10 employee networks and 26 inclusion councils organized geographically throughout the company’s network that have goals and metrics tied to the overall corporate strategy. CSX also has an annual weeklong coaching/ inclusion forum. Its formal coaching program, Associate Development Program, has two phases per year at its headquarters and six field locations.
