Willard R. Daggett, Ed.D., Founder and Chairman of the International Center for Leadership in Education Dr. Willard R. Daggett is known worldwide for his efforts to move preK-12 education systems towards more rigorous and relevant skills and knowledge for all students. Dr. Daggett has assisted states, school districts and education ministries in other countries with their school reform initiatives. He is the creator of the Rigor/Relevance Framework, a practical planning and instructional tool that is used in schools throughout the United States. Dr. Daggett helps people look at education differently. Tony Plana, Movie and Television Actor and International Speaker Tony Plana was educated at Loyola-Marymount University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree through the Honors Program in Literature and Theater Arts, graduating magna cum laude. He received his professional training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. In 2008 he was awarded Loyola High School’s Cahalan Award as a distinguished alumnus and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Imagen Foundation. In 2009 the HOLA organization honored him with the Raul Julia HOLA Founders Award for excellence. Last year in 2010, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa selected him as worthy of one of the highest honors bestowed by the City of Los Angeles, The Dream of Los Angeles Award for his contributions to the media arts and education. Plana is the co-founder and Executive Artistic Director of the East LA Classic Theatre (ECT), a group comprised of multicultural, classically trained theatre professionals. Plana recently starred for four seasons as Ignacio Suarez, the widowed father to America Ferrera’s Ugly Betty, in ABC’s landmark, groundbreaking hit series for which he received the 2006 Golden Satellite Award from the International Press Academy, an Imagen Award, and an Alma Award. Ugly Betty was the first Spanish-speaking series to be adapted to English for a major American network and has received the highest ratings and the most critical acclaim of any Latino-based show in the history of television, most notably 11 Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for best comedy. As an actor Plana has starred in more than 60 feature films. Jeannette Torres-Alvarez, Brand Ambassador, Early Childhood Expert “Discovery Familia is the perfect platform to discuss important topics that affect moms universally. I will share parenting tips about retaining the Spanish language, finding solutions for a healthier lifestyle and practical ways to maximize quality family time.” As part of the fall initiatives, Discovery Familia also welcomes Jeannette Torres-Álvarez to the network. As the network’s first official ambassador, Jeannette will serve as an integral part of a major national television push in English and Spanish to attract bilingual and Spanish–dominant mothers. She will also lead the way as the on-air host of a brand new initiative, “Nuestros Hijos”, a series of informative interstitials on areas of interest to Hispanic moms such as: language development, healthy habits, parenting and more. Torres-Álvarez is a respected author, early childhood expert and the very essence of today’s professional woman and devoted mother.
