As we release the Genie from the Bottle, you will come to understand how student engagement is ensured, behavior improved, classroom instruction improved and student and staff safety is enhanced. Presented by: Dr. William E. Roberts, Superintendent Nye County School District Pahrump, NV E-2 Planning for the New Majority Michelangelo Minorities now make up about 35% of the country’s population, an increase of 5% from 2000, as the white population percentage continues to decline, according to the 2010 U.S. census estimates. In the past 10 years the Latino population has increased from 35 million to an estimated 56 million to become the largest minority population, far surpassing the estimated 39 million African-Americans in the U.S. It is believed by economists and demographers that the minorities will become the “new majority” by 2050. This session will examine the implications of this demographic shift on educational policies and systems, as well as on the young people themselves, with a focus on traditionally under-performing Latino student populations.
