Customers of CDI will receive greater assurance that they are purchasing a topquality secondhand computer with valid Microso licenses, and will gain better access to so ware updates and enhancements in the future. CDI joins a select group in the Registered Refurbisher program, which is targeted in part to educational institutions, nonpro t charitable organizations and other special groups. In return, Microso gives refurbishers a proprietary tool that simpli es the installation of Windows operating systems for different computer models. CDI ships between 13,000 to 18,000 computers a month, and Bristow’s team of 67 workers can process up to 1,000 units a day. Some orders can involve hundreds of computers, others may be a single laptop for a teacher. Bristow’s goal is to get them out of the warehouse within two days, with delivery scheduled within three to ve business days. Damaged or incomplete orders aren’t acceptable. “I want the customer to have the most professional experience possible,” she said. Bristow doesn’t just handle deliveries. Her team will also work with districts to set up computers within a school and haul away old equipment. Sometimes that’s done through partners, sometimes with CDI’s own sta . CDI sta ers recently ew down to a small school district outside Waco, Texas, to set up 300 computers. ey ew in on a Monday and returned to Toronto on Friday a er recycling the old equipment and making sure the new gear was working perfectly. “If districts have a big rollout, we’ll help them with that,” Bristow said. “I think it’s something that sets us apart from everybody else.” Bristow has been with CDI for 16 years and has held her current position a little more than four years.
