Here at CDI, we’re proud to be part of the solution in both those areas by helping school districts meet their technology goals in a cost-e ective and environmentally responsible way. We know that every computer we sell represents a signi cant savings for a school. If that school was accustomed to buying brand new Dell computers and it now purchases CDI Certi ed Dell computers, school o cials can either a ord a lot more technology for their budget or they can divert some funds earmarked for technology to other programs. Either way, we are helping children get a better education, and that is important to us. We also know that every computer purchased from us is a computer that did not have to be manufactured from raw natural resources. By recertifying secondhand computers, we extend the life of existing technology and help prevent toxic waste from being created. Recerti cation creates almost no waste, requires very few resources and is largely the product of labor and expertise, not material. Since we ship over 10,000 computers a month, the environmental bene t is signi cant. As the CEO of CDI, I am proud to be running a successful company and providing employment for almost 200 families. But the real goal is to get more computers in the hands of students, while doing our part for the environment. For the last few years, CDI has been achieving that dual goal extremely well. Sincerely, PAGE 2 ʻDoodle 4 Googleʼ contest leads to a tech win for Missouri district THIRD GRADER MAKENZIE MELTON’S ARTISTRY WILL ensure that students in her Missouri school district will have access to scores of top-quality recerti ed computers from CDI. Melton was the national winner of the “Doodle 4 Google” competition this spring, which encouraged K12 students to transform Google’s iconic logo to t the theme “If I Could Do Anything, I Would ....” Melton, a 9-year-old student at El Dorado Springs R-2 Schools in El Dorado Springs, Mo., drew a rainforest habitat. Her design was chosen out of 33,000 selections and displayed on Google’s home page on May 27. As the overall winner, Melton collected a $15,000 college scholarship and a netbook computer, and her school district picked up a $25,000 technology grant from Google. With Melton’s input, the money is to be divided up equally between the district’s elementary school, middle school and high school, as well as its special education and gi ed and talented programs. “We felt like it was something we wanted to spread throughout the school,” said Barbara Walsh, who runs El Dorado Springs’ gi ed and talented program, of which Makenzie is a member. Melton and school o cials chose CDI so they could maximize the impact of the grant. e money will pay for 64 computers, plus related equipment including interactive whiteboards, rolling carts and the like.
