Twice as Many Grades Can Enter This Year, So We’re Offering a Lot More Prizes Disney’s Planet Challenge will crown two national grand prize winners in 2011, one for the elementary school contest and one for the brand-new middle school competition. There’s plenty of recognition to go around for other projects too. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMPETITION National Grand Prize Winner: The winning class will be treated to a 3-day trip to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., in May 2011. All expenses, including transportation, will be paid for the teacher and students. At the resort, the class will be recognized in a ceremony dedicated to their project. In addition, the class will be featured on the Disney Channel and students will receive a Disney prize pack, with items such as a reusable lunch kit, DVDs and more. The winning teacher will receive a $5,000 award, an expense-paid trip to the 2012 National Science Teachers Association Conference in Indiana, a 1-year NSTA membership, a customized gift, and a certifi cate of recognition. Additionally, an illustration of the classroom will appear within a Marvel comic book. Second Place: The class will receive a $1,500 award, and a matching amount will be awarded to the school. Students will be treated to a Disney prize pack and a private advance screening of the newest Disneynature fi lm, “African Cats,” a True Life Adventure in theaters next April in celebration of Earth Day 2011.
