Tech Directions - May 2008 - (Page 9) the news report Susanne Peckham susanne@techdirections.com ACTE Announces 2009 National CTE Month Theme, Logo Design Contest The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces the 2009 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month theme, CTE: Building Blocks for a Successful Career. ACTE is hosting its annual CTE Month Logo Design Contest, looking for logo submissions that illustrate the importance of CTE in providing the necessary skills to be competitive in the workforce. The contest is open to CTE students, and the designer of the winning CTE Month Logo will receive a check for $250. Logos must be original designs by CTE students and must follow these criteria: ● Logo must incorporate the CTE Month theme, CTE: Building Blocks for a Successful Career. ● Logo must be easily reproduced both in color and black and white. ● Logo must be a two-color design submitted in EPS (Illustrator) format, with a printed proof included. Entries may be submitted by mail or e-mail. For mail entries, send logo on a CD to: Marketing Department, ACTE, 1410 King St., Alexandria, VA 22314. E-mail entries to ithomas@ acteonline.org and include both an EPS file and a PDF of the logo. The following information must be included with each submission: ● Student’s name and home phone number, ● Instructor’s name, and ● School name, address and phone number. Submissions are due by May 30, 2008. The winner will be contacted in July by ACTE. ITEA Awards A number of awards were issued at this year’s International Technology Education Association (ITEA) conference, held in Salt Lake City, UT, in late February. Among them are: Academy of Fellows Award— Gerhard Salinger; Award of Distinction—Sharon Brusic; Special Recognition Award —Steve Barbato; Lockette/Monroe Humanitarian Award— John Iley; Prakken Professional Cooperation Award—Andrea Prejean; Wilkinson Meritorious Service Award—Gerald Day; and Outstanding Sales Representative Award— Terry Johnson. Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana), John Vaglia (Tennessee), Kendall Gadd (Kentucky), and Phil Cardon (Michigan) were named Outstanding Affiliate Representatives. Walter F. Deal III, John Singer, and Kenneth Starkman were awarded Distinguished Technology Educator (D.T.E.) status. The association also awarded a number of scholarships and grants; Maley Outstanding Graduate Student Citations; Program Excellence Awards; and Teacher Excellence Awards. ACTE Image Award The Association for Career and Technical Education has named WRAL news reporter and anchor Ken Smith the first recipient of its annual Image Award for bringing positive attention to the career and technical education field. For eight years, Smith has volunteered for the School to Career (STC) Initiative in North Carolina’s Wake County public school system.
